Replace old springs or install them on a brand new garage door by choosing from the many Torsion Spring options available from Action Industries. Torsion Springs are the most popular style of overhead garage door spring mechanism, with one or two springs installed on the torsion shaft. As the door closes, cables attached to bottom corners of the door wind up the springs. When the door is opened, the springs unwind and help lift the garage door.

Action Industries has many different sizes of Torsion Springs available for purchase to fit a variety of residential and commercial garage doors. All springs come standard with a 2-Inch inside diameter and come in various lengths. Most springs are available in Right Wound and Left Wound options depending on which side of the door they install. All pre-made spring options from Action Industries are pre-installed with winding cones and stationary cones. No additional assembly required.

Left Wound and Right Wound Torsion Springs are available in the following wire sizes:

  • .207 Wire Size

  • .218 Wire Size

  • .225 Wire Size

  • .234 Wire Size

  • .2437 Wire Size

  • .250 Wire Size

  • .262 Wire Size

To determine which option is right for your, there are four pieces of information we need to know:

  1. Wire Size

  2. Inside Diameter

  3. Length of spring

  4. Wind of spring (Right or left wound)

WIRE SIZE:

To Determine your wire size take a tape measure or caliper and measure the distance between 10 coils, and then 20 coils. Please make sure that there are no gaps in the spring (fully compressed) when getting these measurements.

INSIDE DIAMETER:

With the same tool from step one, measure the inside diameter of the spring to the nearest 1/16th of an inch. Many manufacturers will stamp the inside diameter on spring cone as well.

LENGTH OF THE SPRING:

While unwound, measure the full length of the spring. This means the coils only, not the cones.

WIND OF THE SPRING:

Each spring is wound a certain direction. Take the end of the spring and look at the cone, if the wire is coiling to the right (clockwise), the spring is Left Wound. If the coil is pointing to the left (counter-clockwise) thats a Right wound spring.
